Swan Hotels chain turns 30

Swan Caxias do Sul

About to turn 30, the Swan Hotel Chain is increasingly up-to-date and in touch with market demands both nationally and internationally, and is one of the few chains in Rio Grande do Sul to have operations outside the country. Under the command of Gabriela Schwan Poltronieri, the watchword since she took over as CEO in January 2020 has been connection. Connection not only between the units, but also with technological innovations, with the corporate environment, between guests and the community around each hotel. It's not for nothing that the chain makes daily commitments to promote a series of transformative actions that encourage the local economy, as well as contributing to the cultural development of the cities where it is established: Novo Hamburgo, Porto Alegre, Caxias do Sul and Rio Grande, Canela and Sintra, in Portugal.

The first step in this success story took place on April 6, 1993, when Carlito and Chirley Schwan opened the Swan Novo Hamburgo, together with their investment partner, Ernani Reuter. The hotel is located in the historic district of Hamburgo Velho, the highest point in the city. Less than seven years later, they expanded to the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Thus, on January 6, 2000, the Swan Porto Alegre was born. In 2002, with Swan Molinos, also in the capital, the expansion turned to business tourism. The following year, growth was directed towards the interior of the state, when Caxias do Sul received a unit, followed in 2012 by Rio Grande, taking advantage of the city's economic boom that year.

After 22 years operating exclusively in Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil, the time has come to reach new horizons and the chain is moving towards Europe. In 2015, Casa do Mercado Lisboa opened on Rua Boa Vista, next to the Bica elevator and 50 meters from the Ribeira market. In 2016, the Palácio de Sintra and Casa do Vinho was launched in Sintra, a hotel complex in the town of the same name that was given the title of Portugal Collection. 2018 was the turn of Casa dos Santos, also in Sintra, made up of small apartments to cater for the growing AirBnB rental public in Europe. The year 2020 brought numerous challenges for the hotel market and the chain began a process of reinvention during the pandemic, renewing its brand with an eye to the future. This is how, on September 28, 2021, the former Swan Business Molinos was transformed into Swan Generation, an All in One hospitality hub that offers coworking, coliving, hospitality, events and a restaurant. On June 3, 2022, a new "star" appeared in the "swan constellation". The Jangal das Araucárias Swan Design Hotel began operating in Canela, promoting a complete sensory leisure experience and opening up space for the time-sharing format through multi-ownership contracts. The chain has a total of 624 rooms across its 8 units.

Among the plans for 2023, the chain will open a development in Portugal aimed at long term rental with 10 apartments in Lisbon and another with 9 suites in Sintra. Expansion in 2024 will focus on the lifestyle line with the Swan Generation and Swan Design Hotel brands, either through full management of the chain, in a multi-property format or in partnerships/collabs.
